Absolutely, Benya! This is such a great observation. I also used to struggle with drug, alcohol, and nicotine addiction (and now I just struggle with life, and that struggle is still very real!)

Have you tried meditation? What you’re saying here is similar to something Sam Harris might say, as well as other mindfulness coaches. They would encourage you to sit and observe the thought, realize that it’s not some important insight, and watch it pass as easy and fast as it arrived in the first place.
